A Celebration of Reading!

Join us at The Traveller on November 2, 2019 for a silent auction and raffle fundraiser! The Bedford Public Library System Foundation is raising funds in support of the Bedford Public Library Summer Reading Program. Tickets are now on sale for $30. Each ticket includes 2 free drink tickets (with a cash bar available for additional drinks), hors d’oeuvres, one entry for the raffle drawing, one entry in the door prize drawing, and a children’s book donation to the library with a commemorative book plate. There will also be a 50/50 drawing conducted during the evening – tickets will be available for purchase at the event.

Each year the six branches of the Bedford Public Library System hold an 8 week Summer Reading Program. The program is open to participants of all ages, with special programs, prizes, and activities for four age levels. In 2019 we had over 6000 people attend programs and events. Our goal for 2020 is to provide even more high quality programming for our patrons to enjoy. Funds raised at A Celebration of Reading will be used to provide performers and programs for the summer. This gives county residents the opportunity to enjoy plays, music, magic, and more at no charge.

The Bedford Public Library is an established and respected community advocacy organization that strives to provide equal access to library materials, information and services relevant to the community for the purposes of learning and enjoyment in the areas of person, professional and educational needs. For many families, the public library is their only source of reading materials. One child’s guardian noted:

We don’t have money for books, but they are all here! We can spend hours just being here and we feel welcome here. It’s a great place, we just find a spot and they start reading, like it’s the best thing they can do this summer and it’s free.

By donating silent auction items, money or sponsoring this event, you will be helping kids and their caregivers enjoy free educational performances, free books, toys, and themed activities all throughout the summer. Please help us make this fundraising event a true celebration of reading!
